Author: Prof. Dr.- Ing. Dr. phil. Frank Müller-Römer
For centuries, the question of how the pyramids in Ancient Egypt were built has occupied Egyptologists, engineers and interested laymen. In the second, updated and significantly expanded edition of his book "Building the Pyramids of Ancient Egypt", engineer and Egyptologist Frank Müller-Römer explains the current state of knowledge. Based on the international research carried out in recent years and relevant publications, tools and construction methods as well as the construction methods of the pyramids of the Old and Middle Kingdoms are comprehensively presented. Over 460 illustrations and 35 tables support the explanations. The book is an up-to-date standard work on pyramid construction in Ancient Egypt.
In 2011, Frank Müller-Römer published a new hypothesis on pyramid construction. The key points are a simultaneous construction method on all four sides of the pyramids using tangentially arranged ramps in order to minimize the construction time and, secondly, a rebuilding of the outer sides, which allows the outer surface to be smoothed from top to bottom without danger and the pyramidion to be placed on top. This proposal is based on construction methods that have been proven archaeologically. Since no fundamental objections have been raised or published by experts to date, Frank Müller-Römer's construction proposal can be described as a new theory on the construction of the pyramids in Ancient Egypt.
Prof. DSc DPhil Frank Müller-Römer, born in 1936, graduated from the humanistic high school "Kreuzschule" in Dresden in 1954 and then studied communications engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart. He completed his studies in 1962 with a master's degree in engineering (“Dipl.- Ing.”). His professional career began at Siemens AG in Stuttgart as a sales engineer and led via the management of the engineering office in Reutlingen to the head of the communications engineering sales department at the office of Siemens AG in Southern Bavaria. From 1975 to the end of 1994, Frank Müller-Römer worked for 20 years as Director Development and Engineering and member of the management of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1995, he took up an honorary professorship with a fixed teaching commitment at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences in the media faculty (media technology department), which he held until 2002. Since 1997, he has also studied Egyptology, Coptology and Near Eastern Archaeology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). At the beginning of 2008, Frank Müller-Römer completed his second degree with a doctorate on the construction technology of the pyramids in Ancient Egypt.
